Yesterday, after a long nantilah...nantilah..., I had to finally say farewell to the last two of my gooseberry plants, the one planted under my mata kucing tree and in the big flower pot.
It was really nice to have you and your siblings around...... for the last six months or so.
But, I am really sorry that you have to go..... Those wicked 'white things' have been hurting you, and me, a lot. Sorry that the pesticides have not actually helped you much.
I guess the surrounding here is not that suitable for your growth, the soil condition in particular. I should be learning more about the ecology of plants.....
And those 'white things', and probably other pests too, that I have missed noticing, might also have contributed to your poor performance.

I was probably too hopeful of harvesting gooseberry fruits having the same quality as those that I bought from the supermarket earlier on, and out of which some seeds were germinated for planting trials.
Anyway, you did try to stay alive and bear some fruits, didn't you?
You know what? I really like your 'berry protectors'. Those berry 'wrappers'' (can I call them 'cangkerangs'?), are certainly beautiful. They are very functional too, although they do not guarantee you that your berries will be 100% free from unhealthy external elements!
I must say that it is really amazing that when your berry wrappers 'decay', they actually turn into beautiful pieces of artwork. The surrounding natural 'forces' have certainly transformed them into superb crafts, insyaAllah!
The intricate interlinking 'veins' of your berry wrappers remind me vividly of the complex nature of relationship network that people have to get into, in order to function more meaningfully in our challenging world today.
And these cangkerangs too remind me of the humble rubber leaves that would also show off their fine veins after they are given a special chemical treatment. Our cottage industry operators then cleverly and skilfully turn them into unique and attractive handicrafts......and, of cour$e, Ringgit Malay$ia.

My dear gooseberry, you could certainly blame me for applying the lebih kurang and hentam keromo method in nurturing you. You know what? After makan gaji for more than 30 years, going through all the stress and strain, I thought it is about time now that I give myself a chance to do things my way, not subjected to the SOPs and KPIs determined by other people.
