WE HAVE TO DO A LITTLE BIT OF SCOLDING AS WELL ...

I do believe that we have to communicate with the plants that we grow. We have to be intimate with them. We need to greet them often, talk to them, protect them from all the unkind pests,
water them well, and of course, feed them with the necessary fertilizers.

By taking good care of the plants, we can expect them to grow well, with plenty of flowers, and lots of fruits. But, what if our plants show good growth, yet passive? For example, by lying dormant, hibernating - but no buds, no flowers, no fruits? I believe that such plants should also be given a little bit of scolding! We should in fact 'publicize' our scolding, on the internet, for instance. That would have far reaching effects on them.

In my recent entry (mid July 2010), “WAHAI KERA .... DI MANA PERIUK-PERIUKMU?” ,
I indicated that I was rather disappointed with my periuk kera (pitcher plant) for being so complacent.
I was upset, then, that despite the loving and tender care that I had been giving her,
she was not able to produce the pitchers that I had been waiting for.
She only managed to produce two bunches of flowers. But not even one single pitcher (pics below)!

(Later, however, I was made to realize by Adry -  http://adrydaud.blogspot.com/ - that I was actually very lucky to
be able to catch sight of those beautiful rare flowers!).

My poor periuk kera must have been feeling awful, realizing that the whole world had in fact
seen her growing so healthy, yet “pitcherless”! As such, within the last three months or so,
she must have been working herself to death to produce her first ever periuk which I happened
to notice last week (Much earlier, she had in fact developed a new bunch of flowers).
Wow, what a surprise - this time, a lovely bunch of flowers accompanied by a brand new periuk!
I could also see that more periuk would follow suit. InsyaAllah.

So, folks, in nurturing your plants, by all means, show your love and affection to them.
But, at times, you do have to scold them as well. Or else your plants might forever
remain passive in their comfort zone and prefer to play the role of a "laggard", never as one
that is active or pro-active. Your plants too might forever feel conceited because of the
special and loving care that you have been giving them.

Salam Pak Temuk

Dulu saya ada sebatang pokok mangga yang sihat dan besar, malang nya dia cuma berdaun lebat saja...(mabuk daun kata orang)....macam macam dah saya buat..ada orang suruh gantung selipar tanda marah kat dia..takek dengan parang...last sekali saya cakap nak tebang jer....beberapa bulan sudah tu, dia mula berbunga lebat dan menghasil kan buah mangga yang manis dan tebal isi nya....

Rasa nya memang pokok pokok ni sekali sekala kena di marah kan...
maybe dia dengar sebab dia pun makhluk tuhan jugak....Wallahuwaklam.

Salam cikgu,

I didn't scold my plants but I will scold a lot of ants surrounded my plants especially during raining season. Even the flowers that suppose to be in pink or yellow colours turns-out with black/brown dot (its the ants).

Already taking care like my own baby but sometimes after waiting for sometimes its make me sad with the result. (I may needs more experiences and learn from you - scold them).

p/s: what language do you talk to your plants?

Salam cikgu,
Alhamdulillah..akhirnya kesabaran cikgu menanti pokok itu mgeluarkan periuknya dibalas dgn hasil yg sgt positif. Bunga+periuk. Kdg2 pokok ni tak blh beri terlebih kasih syg nanti dia jadi 'naik lemak'. Pkk jd 'obesiti' dgn daun yg lebat tp tak bbunga atau bbuah. Pkk periuk kera cikgu dh sempurna kini. Tahniah kpd cikgu dn pkk tu sbb membalas jasa tuannya yg mjaganya dgn baik.

Memang begitulah. Kalau kita alihkan pandangan kpd usaha membangunkan kelompok-kelompok terpinggir, projek-projek yg kecillah yg selalunya lebih mudah mereka terima & laksanakan & yg akhirnya boleh memperbaiki kehidupan mereka. Ceria selalu!

Salam Ezza
Geli hati pula membaca kisah pokok mempelam tu. Hehehe. Setakat digantungi selipar nampaknya dia tak kisah. Tapi bila dengar nyawanya terancam jelas dia bergegas keluarkan bunga & buah. Yalah, dia makhluk Allah juga. Kalau pun dia tak tahu bahasa kita, mungkin dia faham riak muka kita yg marah. Nampaknya kaedah marah, spt juga semasa kita menjaga anak-anak, ada kesan positifnya ke atas para pokok. Ceria selalu!

Salam ZAKIE
You are right. The red ants around my house have been especially vicious towards my Japanese Roses. I don't blame my JR plants now that they don't flower that well. But the other plants that are healthy and free from any pests will certainly get some blame for not doing what they are supposed to do. Of course, I do realize that something will only happen if Allah wills it. Have a nice day!

Salam ADRY

Temuk, plants are living species and like us need attention too. Give it love and compassion and it would return love back. It has it way of giving back.

Talking or 'dibelai' is part of the culture of gardening, thus one has to talk or encourage it to flower or fruits. It does listen and I learn overtime that if you nurture it with loving care it would return with lots of love.

Scientifically when we talk to the plant, carbon dioxide is released from our mouth and plants need carbon dioxide to live, thus plant that are talked to would grow better than the one that is left to fend for itself.

I am glad that your pitcher plant at last shows its true color, giving you that young pitcher for you to enjoy. BTW look inside the pitcher and do not let the inside dried up. Some water must be inside for it to grow well.

Thank and do have a nice day.

Cikgu HUMAIRI

Pada saya, 'Bercakap Dgn Pokok' tu tajuk orang seni @ sastera. Unik & saya sokong!

Yg satu lagi tu, tajuk orang sains. Yg ramai tak setuju tu agaknya orang sainslah, ya? Salam bahagia.

Hi Pak Idrus

Thanks for your interest in that recent entry of mine. Also, for the scientific explanation why we need to talk to our plants.

Yes, I did notice that there was a small amount of water in the pitcher as soon as it opended up its lid. I will help the plant to maintain that amount of water so that the pitcher doesn't dry up. I am patiently waiting for the rest of the pitchers to appear.

Have a nice day & salam bahagia.

PERNAH DENGAR CAKAP2 - - POKOK NI MACAM KITA JUGAK. BOLEH BERCAKAP, BOLEH MENDENGAR, BOLEH MAKAN DAN ADA PERASAAN. NAMPAK GAYANYA CAKAP2 INI ADA KEBENARANNYA. WALLAHUALLAM !

Salam LF
Memang mudah utk mempercayainya terutama berdasarkan kisah rasul-rasul dahulu yg boleh berkomunikasi dengan makhluk-makhluk Allah lain selain daripada spesis seperti kita. Ceria selalu!
